3 more weeks, oh my!

There are 3 weeks (16 school days) left until I close the gradebook for Trimester 1. If you have any missing assignments, please get them in! If there is an assessment that you would like to redo, please see me before or after classes/school.

Also, a helpful parent sent me an email about a way to save on Scholastic Book orders:
"I just thought you would like to know that at Wal-Mart they sell a 3 pack of Kellogg’s cereals for $5.  And inside that 3 pack is a $5 coupon for scholastic books. " She saved $10 on her latest book order!

2012-2013...It's a New Year!

Welcome to 6th grade at Sunrise Ridge Intermediate School! There will be tons of changes this year from elementary school...we will try to help you adjust, but remember to be patient with yourself. Please come to Back to School night on Aug 14th. It will help you to feel a little calmer on Wednesday, Aug 15th! If you are already purchasing school supplies (fresh pencils and folders, yum!), please make sure you have the basics and find a cool 3 ring binder to hold everything. In addition, you will probably need some spiral and composition notebooks. One of the handiest things to purchase is a flashdrive. You will probably be able to use the same one (if you keep track of it) all through school. Don't worry if you were waiting to get a supply list, you will have a couple of days to get everything together!

I'm excited to meet all of you and begin our learning adventure...

Purple hair is here...

Please excuse the picture...I'm still a little tired! But the hair is great!

Wednesday, May 23, 2012

Check back for PURPLE HAIR!

It's too quiet in my room...even with my iTunes jammin'. I hope you all have a great summer. Maybe I will update the Language Blog with book reviews; I have a LOT of books I want to read this summer! I will get the purple hair tomorrow, so I will add a post with a picture.
Be sure to keep reading, get lots of sleep, and I'll see you around SRIS next year!

All library books (school and Mrs. White's) must be turned in next Friday, 5/11, as well.

We will write poetry the last couple of weeks in Language Arts, and celebrate our achievements in reading this year!

Trimester 3

We have begun work on a variety of new standards with the new trimester. In Language Arts, we are focusing on forming an effective argument, which will lead to a debate and workshop the end of March. In Social Studies, we have moved into the Middle Ages. Period 2/3 has developed a unit plan and their own rubric for their most recent assignment on feudalism.

Upcoming important dates:
Spring Break 3/12-3/16
Debate workshop/SPAR 3/27-3/28
Spring Recess 4/6-4/9 (Easter weekend)
CRT Testing begins the end of April

New Year, New TBT, New Trimester....Almost

Hopefully, everyone had a restful winter break and has settled back into the routine of school life. We started a new TBT this week, Session 5. I am currently teaching the 2nd of 3 Digital Photography sessions. If you are here for Dig Photo, please refer to the links on the right side of the page (scroll down).
We have just completed our unit on Greece in Social Studies, and will begin our Rome unit next week. Check the Social Studies blog for more information. I will add the appropriate links sometime in the next few days.
In Language Arts, we are working on a biography (reading and presenting) through our Wax Museum project. We hope that many parents can come and view our efforts on Wed., Jan. 25th (please see red paper for details)! Our next project will be a book to film comparison...we need to learn how to evaluate different kinds of media, so that will be an exciting change.
The trimester ends Feb. 17, but ALL work must be completed and turned in by Feb. 10 to count on 2nd trimester. Language Arts students need to complete a book review or commercial for one of the books they've read this trimester before then.
